October 2nd 2005

Libocedrus plumosa
Kawaka

Pyramidal shaped tree reaching 25m. Bark stringy.

Leaves compressed and 5-6 mm broad.

Mangonui to Hawke's Bay and the north western corner of the South Island

The plant sets seed on occasional years, ie not that often. The seed is found inside a dry capsule and is dispersed as the capsules dry out. The seeds have a wing and will be blown by the wind. Sow straight after collection. They are quick to germinate and don't store well.
