Myrisine australis
Matipo, Mapou
A very attractive and hardy plant that is often mistaken in the garden for a Pittosporum. With its red stems and crinkled leaves it is a very attractive shrub or small tree. It is easily grown from seed collected in early winter. It produces an abundance of seed scattered along the branches, which is purple or black when ripe. It is dispersed by wax eyes and young seedlings are common around the parent tree.
