North Cape to East Cape
Toru belongs with rewarewa in the Proteaceae family and so is a tree of dry spots. It has an attractive leaf form. The leaves turn red as they age. An all-round attractive tree.
Toru has purple fruit with one fluted seed per drupe. Particularly rancid smelling flesh of the fruit. It sometimes has 3 cotyledons.  Seed can take about 8 months to germinate from sowing. Soak to remove all the flesh prior to sowing.
