Lacebark Houhere

Leaves 5-12 cm long, often purplish beneath
Flowers white and attractive.
North Cape to Waikato
A variable species of several forms. Shrub or small tree to 6m. Quick growing.
The inner bark is composed of lacelike fibres that was useful for embroidery by maori and europeans.
The plant is hardy in most soil and can withstand coastal winds. Semi- deciduous. Seeds are wind dispersed and germinate readily if sown on collection.
